26 Nov Meet the team: Melanie Pritchard
We are back with a Meet the team blog, this week we sat down with Melanie who has worked at Kingdom for over 2 decades!
Tell us a bit about yourself
Divorced. 57. Grandmother to twin boys. Two children; one about to get married, and my daughter Nancy is the mother of the twins…yeah, they’re alright.
How long have you worked at Kingdom?
I’ve been here for almost 21 years. I started in the Health and Hygiene section, I started by creating a catalogue for them. My next major job after that was working for the Print and Design department, worked over there for a few years. Then I came back up here, part-time as a receptionist. Then I took over Accounts, and my job has multiplied since then to a myriad of different things.
What does your typical workday include?
Booking in goods; checking invoicing (to make sure it all balances); chasing up suppliers; making payments; I now do the VAT; insurances and generally help the warehouse manager.
What do you do outside of work?
I go swimming and I do Salsa classes. I go and visit my sisters, one in Milton Keynes and one in Sussex; we divide our time between the three houses. Not easily at the moment.
What is your favourite thing about working for Kingdom?
The people; they’re a friendly bunch, you can always have a good laugh. Also we can always get to the bottom of problems, it’s good teamwork.
When you were younger what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to work in a bank! Which I actually did for 20 years. I worked for Natwest for 20 years; worked my way up. Then I left to have Nancy and 4 years later started here.
Describe your job in 3 words.
Varied, diverse and ever-changing.
What was the last book you read and last film you watched?
The last book I read was whilst I was on furlough, which was the Hobbit. The last really good film I watched was Hidden Figures; that was absolutely brilliant, really interesting.
What was your first-ever job?
The first-ever job was at the bank, I was 16.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Chocolate.
Who is your favourite person at Kingdom?
I don’t have one favourite person. I like everyone here.
If you could choose a superpower what would it be?
To be able to eat as much as I want and not gain weight
What is something big or small you’re really good at?
I love playing with figures, like sudoku or anything like that. I love anything to do with numbers.
Come back next week for another Meet the team blog!
